We are seeking to recruit for the position of Disposals Project Lead for our Commercial – Procurement Department.

Reporting to the Supply & Logistics Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all disposal activities are carried out safely, legally, cost-effectively, and in compliance with Harmony Gold standards, Papua New Guinea legislative requirements, and environmental obligations, while optimizing value recovery and reducing site risk. The responsibilities include planning, managing, and executing a dedicated site-wide project focused on the identification, valuation, removal, sale, disposal, or recycling of surplus and obsolete assets, machinery, spares, components, and scrap materials at the Hidden Valley Gold Mine.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of the surplus and obsolete assets disposal project.
  • Identify, classify, and validate surplus, obsolete, and scrap assets across site.
  • Develop disposal strategies including resale, recycling, cannibalisation, or scrap.
  • Manage contractors, logistics providers, and buyers.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and governance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular reporting
  • Supervise disposal activities to ensure provision of compliant, transparent and responsive processes.
  • Manage the obsolescence program to meet the annual inventory reduction targets.
  • Assist with the review and disposal of surplus materials / equipment
  • Demonstrate total transparency and ethical business practices in all activities.
  • Act in a responsible, courteous manner with the appropriate levels of cultural sensitivity during all interactions.
  • Engage internal stakeholders, including end-users, Purchasing, Logistics and Inventory and maintaining good relationships.
  • Pro-actively identify and escalate project delivery risks.
  • Removes roadblocks to enable the delivery of the required project deliverables.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Project Management, Business, or similar.
  • Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) (Desirable)
  • Asset management or contract management training (Desirable)
  • 8 – 12 years’ experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
  • Proven experience managing surplus or obsolete assets and disposal programs.
  • Strong contractor, logistics, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of mining equipment, spares, and inventory systems.
  • High safety awareness and strong governance focus.

This role will be offered as a National opportunity within Papua New Guinea with flexible work locations requiring some presence on the Hidden Valley Mine Site as well as in Lae, Morobe Province.

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
