What you’ll do:

This position will be responsible for overseeing Auto Mechanics and Trade Assistants to ensure vehicles, trucks, and forklifts are maintained per industry guidelines and safety standards, including routine and corrective maintenance.

This is a 28:28 FIFO role based onsite at Iagifu Ridge, Southern Highlands Province.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Plan and allocate routine work for vehicles, trucks, and forklifts in the Autoshop, providing technical support to Trade Assistants and Mechanics.
  • Ensure vehicle inspections and services are documented and recorded in JDE.
  • Maintain vehicles according to approved procedures and in a timely manner.
  • Supervise or personally test new vehicles, trucks, and forklifts, test driving before and after repairs to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Use troubleshooting techniques to identify and repair faults, liaise with Supply Chain for parts, and maintain organised components for reassembly.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and equipment failures, recommending corrective actions and assisting with paperwork.
  • Train new Autoshop Mechanics and apprentices on equipment operation and maintenance; complete Job Skills Assessments.
  • Assist other Maintenance personnel in maintaining systems, e.g., diesel power units, when directed.
  • Ensure high workmanship standards, review and update JDE Preventive Maintenance and Warehouse stock levels.
  • Comply with HSES & Environmental policies, including Life Saving and Autoshop Golden Rules, and participate in Weekly Tool Box meetings.
  • Act as Autoshop Supervisor as needed, with agreement from SVP – OSSC.

What you’ll bring:

The ideal candidate will be Trade qualified Motor, or Diesel Mechanic, and have a minimum 5 years’ Trade experience as a vehicle mechanic and Team Leader. Your ability to understand most vehicles, trucks and forklifts operating concepts is essential, along with:

  • Proficient in all aspects of the trade, capable of handling non-routine work independently.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with minimal assistance.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to interpret manual and software drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills with all parties.
  • Works well with all personnel.
  • Positive approach to vehicle, truck, and forklift reliability and optimisation.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to refine technical skills.
  • Understands career development opportunities and is prepared to pursue them.
  • Strong knowledge of JDE system and other soft skills.
