About the Role

PNGUNRE invites applications from suitably qualified and highly motivated academics for appointment as Lecturer I – Agriculture Policy & Standards within the Department of Agriculture, School of Natural Resources.

The position is based at the Vudal Campus, East New Britain Province, and contributes to the teaching, research, leadership, consultancy, and professional services of the Agriculture Department. The successful appointee will play a key role in strengthening academic programs, fostering industry and government partnerships, and advancing research in agriculture policy and standards at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The appointee will work closely with the Head of Department and relevant strand leaders within the Agriculture Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in Agriculture Policy and Standards at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Provide academic leadership in course development, curriculum review, and program delivery within the Agribusiness stream.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Lead and participate in research activities, including research grant proposal development and attracting external funding.
  • Publish research outputs in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to professional services, consultancy, and industry and government engagement activities.
  • Participate in academic administration at Section, Department, School, and University levels.
  • Coordinate and contribute to annual and quarterly academic and research reports.
  • Actively contribute to a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance academic culture.
  • Ensure compliance with university academic, research, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A PhD or Master’s degree in Agriculture Policy and Standards or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ full-time teaching experience at a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent relevant industry or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to design and deliver high-quality tertiary-level courses.
  • Evidence of an active research profile, including at least two (2) peer-reviewed publications indexed by Scopus, Web of Science (SCI), or ERA.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to supervise postgraduate students.
  • Experience in developing flexible and blended learning programs incorporating digital technologies.
  • Demonstrated academic leadership and/or administrative capability.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and culturally diverse environments.
  • Commitment to equity, cultural diversity, and workplace health and safety principles.

K51,328.00 – K62,733.00
K56,165.00 – K68,647.00
(plus applicable allowances and benefits)
