About the Role
PNGUNRE invites applications from suitably qualified and highly motivated academics for appointment as Lecturer I or Lecturer II (One Health) within the Department of Animal Science, School of Natural Resources.
The position is based at the Vudal Campus, East New Britain Province, and supports the development of the newly established Department of Animal Science. Consistent with other academic appointments within the School of Natural Resources, the successful appointee will coordinate and deliver Introduction to One Health and related units aligned with their expertise, while contributing to the core academic functions of teaching, research, publication, consultancy, and community outreach.
The appointee will report directly to the Head of Department, Animal Science.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review unit study guides in One Health and related subject areas.
- Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and practicals for undergraduate programs.
- Supervise undergraduate research, case study projects, and Industrial Training (IT) reports.
- Conduct applied and scholarly research and publish in recognised academic outlets.
- Undertake consultancies and participate in community outreach and extension programs.
- Set assessment tasks, mark examinations and coursework, and submit results in accordance with university timelines.
- Participate in departmental, school, and University meetings, conferences, and seminars.
- Ensure compliance with university academic, quality assurance, and laboratory protocols.
- Assist in the management and operation of the University’s Abattoir and relevant laboratory facilities.
- Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Health and Management, Veterinary Science, or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ industry or teaching experience in Animal Health Management, laboratory services, or a related field.
- Demonstrated understanding of the One Health concept and its application to livestock, human, and environmental health interactions.
- Knowledge of epidemiology, zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and risk communication relating to contagious diseases.
- Familiarity with University academic and quality assurance protocols.
- Practical laboratory skills in disease diagnosis, blood sampling, and analysis.
- Ability to operate, manage, and maintain laboratory and field equipment.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, communication, and curriculum contribution.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across academic, laboratory, and community settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related digital tools for teaching, reporting, and administration.

K51,328.00 – K62,733.00
K56,165.00 – K68,647.00
