School of Agriculture

The School offers a 4-year and 2-year programs that lead to undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees in Agriculture. The School also offers a 2-year program in flexible learning mode that leads to undergraduate degree in Agriculture and Rural Development. The School regularly graduates several research degree (MPhil and PhD) students. School hosts a biotechnology centre, a farm, and a well-equipped analytical services laboratory to support the undergraduate, postgraduate and staff research portfolios. Applications are invited for the following positions.

Lecturer I/II in Agronomy

A minimum master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences is required, specializing in agronomy or a closely related field from an accredited institution. The successful candidate must be a mature person with at least 2 years of full-time university teaching and research experience in a similar environment with 3 or more publications in learned professional journals, and evidence of active conference attendance as a scholarly activity.

The successful candidate will need to show strong evidence of applied agricultural research and a commitment to teaching at graduate (Masters) and undergraduate levels. Proficiency in the following research-oriented subject coverage would be an advantage: intermediate and advanced statistical principles, agricultural research design and appraisal, computation and statistical analysis of experimental data, field research methodology, functional analysis of social and natural sciences, and concepts of participatory research, and agronomic-related knowledge and skills.

This is a key leadership position, so the candidate must also be able to perform effectively as a team leader, both at the School (e.g., mentoring of junior staff) and, when required, University level (including the possibility of serving as Head of School if requested by Senior Management).

Conditions of Service

Lecturer I/II

Base Salary Range: PGK47,060 – PGK67,702 per annum.

Domestic Market Allowance: PGK13,639 – PGK31,585 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
