JOB PURPOSE:
The Lecturer in Information Technology will contribute to the university’s academic mission by delivering high-quality teaching, conducting impactful research, and engaging with industry and community partners. The role supports the development of digital competencies and innovation across undergraduate and postgraduate IT programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning
1. Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical labs in core IT areas such as programming, databases, networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and software engineering.
2. Design and assess assignments, exams, and capstone projects in line with academic standards.
3. Supervise student research, internships, and final-year projects.
Curriculum Development
1. Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of IT curricula to reflect emerging technologies and industry needs.
2. Integrate modern tools and platforms (e.g., Git, AWS, Docker, Python, Java, SQL) into course delivery.
Research and Innovation
1. Conduct original research in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, human-computer interaction, or systems development.
2. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
3. Seek external funding and collaborate on interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Student Engagement and Support
1. Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
2. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages innovation and critical thinking.
Professional and Community Engagement
1. Build partnerships with industry, government, and professional bodies to enhance teaching and research impact.
2. Participate in outreach activities, guest lectures, and community-based projects.
Academic Service
1. Contribute to departmental governance, accreditation, and quality assurance processes.
2. Serve on academic committees and participate in strategic planning.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education
1. A Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is essential.
2. A PhD or progress toward a PhD is highly desirable.
Experience
1. University-level teaching experience in IT or related disciplines.
2. Demonstrated research output or industry experience in IT.
Skills
1. Proficiency in programming languages and IT tools relevant to teaching and research.
2. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to use learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Canvas) and online teaching platforms.
