Legal Manager
Port Moresby

We are partnering with a leading Bank to appoint a Legal Manager to join their in-country legal team.

This is a hands-on, in-house role suited to a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working across disputes, regulatory matters, and day-to-day legal operations within a dynamic and evolving environment.

About the Role
Reporting into senior legal leadership, you will play a key role in supporting business operations by providing practical legal support across a broad range of matters.
This is a primarily operational role, with a strong focus on execution rather than purely advisory work.
Key areas of responsibility include:

• Managing disputes, claims, and litigation matters, including working with external counsel
• Engaging with regulatory and statutory bodies
• Drafting and reviewing a range of commercial agreements
• Supporting lending, security, and recovery-related matters
• Providing legal input into compliance, governance, and risk management activities
• Assisting internal stakeholders with day-to-day legal queries and issue resolution

About You
We are seeking a well-rounded legal professional who can operate confidently in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
You will bring:

• 5–7+ years’ post-admission experience in commercial, banking, or regulatory law
• Experience within financial services, a regulated environment, or a reputable law firm
• Exposure to disputes and/or litigation (even if not your primary focus)
• Strong understanding of legal risk and regulatory frameworks
• Excellent drafting, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills
• The ability to balance commercial outcomes with legal risk

Experience dealing with government or statutory bodies, as well as exposure to land or property-related matters, will be highly regarded.

Additional Requirements

• Admission to practice law (PNG admission highly regarded or required)
• PNG Drivers licence or the ability to obtain (or willingness to obtain) a PNG driver’s licence
