Company Overview
Tolu Minerals Limited has successfully completed its exploration phase and is transitioning into underground mining operations in Papua New Guinea, with full-scale production targeted for 2027. This role is part of the build-up of operational capability across the Mobile Maintenance Department as the company moves from development into full operational status.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent the Light Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of Tolu Minerals' light vehicle fleet (utes, troop carriers, buses, Kabota’s and other support vehicles) to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and available to support site operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled servicing, inspections, and preventive maintenance on light vehicles in accordance with OEM specifications and the maintenance schedule.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on light vehicles, troop carriers, and ancillary equipment.
- Complete pre-start inspections, defect reporting, and minor repairs to keep vehicles compliant with site roadworthiness standards.
- Complete accurate job cards, service records, and work order updates for all work performed.
- Supply accurate parts scopes and scope of works to ensure cost effective repairs take place.
- Identify and report any defects, hazards, or non-conformances on vehicles or in the workshop to the Mobile Maintenance Planner/Superintendent.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop area in line with 5S and HSE standards.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions as required.
- Assist with breakdown response and recovery of light vehicles across site as directed.
- Comply with all site HSE procedures, PPE requirements, and permit-to-work systems.
Qualifications
- Trade certificate in Light Vehicle / Automotive Mechanics or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Current PNG driver's license (manual transmission).
Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years' post-trade experience servicing and repairing light vehicles, preferably in a mine site, remote, or industrial setting.
- Experience with Kabota’s, 4WD utes, troop carriers, and diesel light vehicles preferred.
- Experience working to documented maintenance schedules and using job cards/work orders.
Skills & Competencies
- Sound diagnostic and fault-finding skills across mechanical, electrical, and basic hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and OEM specifications.
- Good understanding of workshop safety practices and use of hand/power tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Team player able to work cooperatively with other trades and support breakdown response when required.
Working Conditions
- Underground and surface mining environment with exposure to heat, humidity, noise, dust, and confined spaces.
- Operates on a fixed roster of 19 days on / 9 days off.
- Required to work shift patterns including day and night shift as rostered.
- Must comply with all Tolu Minerals HSE policies, PNG Mining Safety regulations, and site-specific permit-to-work systems.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times in designated areas.
