Position: Logistics Manager
Location: Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Responsible to: Branch Manager & Regional Manager

EFM Overview:
Express Freight Management in Honiara operates a multi-modal freight agency covering sea, land and air
cargo. The role requires an individual with commercial & operational experience and management exposure.
1. EFM acts as vessel agents for PIL, Mariana Express Lines, NPDL plus regular port agency vessels.
This operation is handled by the shipping manager.
2. EFM is the General Sales Agent (GSA) for Air Niugini Cargo plus is the country representative for
FedEx and other sea and air 3rd party freight forwarders. These cover import sea & air freight
together with express parcel and packages. All cargo is moved by our vehicles into our bonded
warehouse where it is customs cleared and delivered “to door” or free hand out at counter after
payment is made.
3. EFM provides trucking services with last mile delivery. Container and general transport services,
operating 2 sidelifter units, 2 prime movers plus 2 x40 heavy duty deck trailers, a 3tn truck and van
for town deliveries.

Scope:
The position is commercial and operational, requiring the successful applicant to be a good communicator
and to effectively make the most of the team. Liaise easily internally, with customers, plan daily operations
and tasks, control staff. Communication and business development are of high priority.

Handling Air Cargo & Warehouse: (Using IQS software)
> Promoting the services of ANG both import & Export.
> Promoting the services of FedEx both import & export.
> Co-ordinating and controlling the underbond movement of freight from air terminal to EFM.
> Control, Tally & check off, release and deliver only once cargo is customs cleared.
> Arrange & Co-ordinate Customs clearance & delivery as required.
> Complete weekly stock takes & complete all Customs reporting on out turns & release.
> Promote associated EFM air services from Group offices.
> Report to cargo principles.

Handling Sea Freight & Warehouse: (Using IQS software)
> Promoting the CFS/FAK services of PFM NZ import.
> Promoting the CFS/FAK services of Sofast Aust import.
> Co-ordinating and controlling the underbond movement of CFS/FAK freight from port to EFM.
> Tally & check off, release and deliver only once cargo is customs cleared.
> Arrange & Co-ordinate Customs clearance & delivery as required.
> Complete weekly stock takes & complete all Customs reporting on out turns & release.
> Promote associated EFM services from Group offices
> Reporting to cargo principles.

Handling Transport Services: (Register every job in IQS software.)
> Ensure all jobs are logged in IQS software.
> Each afternoon check work load, schedule next day deliveries.
> Ensure staff are on time, DDs & EIRs are competed for each move.
> Daily reconciliation of each job against the respective moves, DD & EIRs then invoice.
> Follow each day’s check list for truck start/maintenance.
> Liaise with EFM maintenance any work needed.

Sales/Business Development: (The logistics manager must be customer focused)
- To co-ordinate sales activities of staff/branch, personally visit key accounts. Follow up leads to principle’s satisfaction. Personal KPI of 4, face2fave calls a week.
- Export; to personally take charge of export shipments, developing key account contacts and support for the principles & EFM.
- Personal involvement in dealing with international principals and customers for all commercial issues. This requires sound industry knowledge and communication skills to secure cargo nominations, replying to and relaying information together with problem solving.

Customer Service:
Oversee the existing team’s performance, ensuring timely follow day to day commercial issues and enquiries. Constantly endeavour to lift the performance of the team by training and leadership. At all times be aware of the need to grow EFM’s business in Honiara. Pass on and develop all leads in an effort to grow relationships with new customers & principles.

Documentation:
- Oversee the import documentation staff, ensuring work flow and document readiness is on time and better than industry standards. Ensure email pre-alerts are sent to customers advising of enroute cargo plus ensuring invoicing for each is completed before time.
- Oversee the export documentation team, ensuring bills of lading, cargo and freight manifests, invoicing are completed promptly on-time and error free.

Container Control:
Containers are currency in the South pacific and easily stolen or lost. Firm control with adherence to industry daily documentation is essential. Leadership is key.

Inter-face with the Team - Start the day with a team talk:
To set guidelines and parameters of each day's activities, be that operations, sales and documentation matters, problem solving with a team approach. Leading a team, holding meetings and providing skilled guidance, setting bench-marks and prioritising issues together with on the job training of staff ensuring their level of competency is maintained and improved.

Inter-face with other Departments:
Due to the industry mix within Express Freight Management there is substantial daily inter-face with the other departments being Shipping & Accounts.

The Right Person:
This is an interesting role with high upside for business development. The successful person needs a strong commercial & industry background, have good logistics experience and knowledge, can meet deadlines. They must lead a team, be hands-on and a leader. Be a motivated, enthusiastic person with a team approach, who can work well with staff in a team environment whilst at the same time forming a valued part of our EFM management of the business. The role is a management, leadership role, it forms part of a dynamic management team.
