Manager – Logistics, Grounds & Asset Protection
The Organisation:
Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students, to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.
The Role:
Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), the Manager – Logistics, Grounds & Asset Protection, provides strategic leadership and operational oversight across critical service areas including; Fire, Rescue & Safety, Logistics, Events & Grounds, and Security Operations (including both internal security staff and contracted personnel). The manager ensures that university resources, facilities, people, and assets are protected, well-maintained, and efficiently utilized in a manner aligned with PAU’s mission, values and operational standards.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate cross-functional teams under the Logistics, Grounds & Asset Protection portfolio.
- Develop and enforce departmental policies, SOPs, risk management plans, and compliance frameworks.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.
- Manage departmental budgets, procurement contracts, staff development, and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with university leadership to support strategic goals and special initiatives. Serve on university committees as required.
- Lead campus-wide fire safety, rescue operations, and emergency response planning.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and fire safety codes.
- Maintain emergency equipment, conduct fire drills and safety briefings for staff and students.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies for fire and disaster preparedness.
- Manage procurement logistics, warehousing, and the movement of goods and equipment across the university.
- Oversee logistics support for university events, including setup, coordination, and asset distribution.
- Supervise grounds staff and contractors to ensure that the campus landscape is attractive, functional, and sustainable.
- Implement environmentally conscious landscaping and grounds maintenance initiatives.
- Provide operational leadership to PAU’s Security Department.
- Develop and maintain robust campus security protocols, including patrols, surveillance, incident response, and reporting systems.
- Oversee access control, emergency preparedness, and liaison with local police and emergency services.
- Ensure security coverage is effective and continuous (24/7) across all areas of the university.
- Other duties as requested by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration).
About you:
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience senior-level experience managing operations in logistics, security, safety, or facilities, with experience in a university environment to be viewed favorably.
- A sound working knowledge of, and proven loyalty to, the church its organization and policies.
- Have an interest in and aptitude for cross-cultural ministry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse operational teams and manage cross-functional priorities.
- Strong understanding of fire and safety regulations, logistics systems, and physical security protocols.
- High level of integrity, resilience, and strategic thinking
- High level interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong ability to work with others as part of a team in achieving collective objectives/goals.
- Knowledge of university operational structures or experience working in an academic institution.
- Familiarity with contractor management and outsourced service oversight.
- Proficiency in asset tracking, fleet management, or logistics management & systems.
- Ability to foster teamwork, accountability, and a service-oriented culture
- A strong understanding of the Churches health message and appreciation of the need to incorporate Health & Safety in all the Churches operations and activities.
