Mechanical Section Lead

Function:

Execute all mechanical maintenance activities associated with the process equipment, utilities and power generation facilities at the refinery safely and effectively as planned to ensure reliability and availability of critical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carries out routine, preventative and predictive maintenance checks and tests on machinery and equipment according to schedules, check lists and maintenance management system routines.

    Assume lead responsibility for the safe, effective and efficient execution of day-to-day maintenance activities on the refinery assets. Ensures the equipment engineering support to different projects tenders and job start-up.
  2. Perform corrective maintenance, repair or replacement on defective equipment or component identified through regular predictive checks or reported failures.

    Responsible for the content and execution of the Weekly Maintenance Schedule for the mechanical trades. Attend the weekly Asset Maintenance staff meeting for backlog review, planning and on the prioritization reviews.

    Acquires and understands the Project goals from Contract, specific documentation and the kick-off meeting.
  3. Responsible for completing mechanical maintenance routines ensuring that the maintenance management system records are accurately kept up to date

    Work preparation of discipline-related work orders and management of discipline backlog. Sets up the procedure for the control of Discipline activities.

  4. Reports to the Maintenance Field Supervisor on findings/defects etc.

    Ensure adequate preparation of maintenance activities for execution including permits, tools, materials, equipment, work site, etc. for those activities within the agreed weekly schedule.

    Contributes to define the Discipline list of activities, list of deliverables and time schedule in accordance with contract requirements.
  5. Complies with all safety and environmental procedures, permit to work system, job safety analysis / assessment, accident / incident / near miss reporting and the use of personal protective equipment. Prepare detail reports on critical equipment issues and on performed actions. Produces a detailed list of in / out critical information to be closely monitored by PEM for a correct course of the project.
  6. Support purchasing activities associated with spare parts, consumables and test equipment.

    Participate in investigations and root cause analysis of failed equipment and on the implementation of recommendations.

    Produces the methodologies / Design Premises comprehensive of all necessary data, general and specific design guidelines.

  7. Ensure that technicians identify and follow-up work and material requirements following the execution of routine and non-routine maintenance works and ensure that these are recorded in the CMMS.

    Assists the Discipline Coordinator in the Project team of Specialists set up and in verifying the effectiveness of working instruments. Project execution and job progress and completion.

  8. Timely completion of work history ensuring highly informative and accurate reports in the CMMS

    Ensures the achievement of assigned goals and the fulfilment of the project quality requirements and the contractual obligations.

  9. Ensure continuous learning and development of staff, conduct coaching and mentoring sessions; supports and implements the Departments training program. Takes any corrective action within the Specialists group necessary for this purpose or reports to PEM for more extensive problems.
  10. Take the role of the Supervisor when required. Is the technical reference for Specialists and Designers and ensure the participation to the interdisciplinary activities. Monitor and reports actual progress / check for Equipment and Packages Discipline activities, including control of men-hours and delivered documents; particular care is required for sub-contracted activities.
  11. Coordinates the evaluation of the design changes to the original scope of work and verify the implementation of those approved.
  12. Is aware and keep track of all interface ( in / out ) information.
  13. Checks and signs all produced documents (internal or subcontracted) like design reports, technical specifications, drawings, etc.
  14. Attends to internal review activities and inter-discipline check meetings.
  15. Provides technical support to Project group
  16. Provides technical support to Procurement, Subcontracting and Construction activities included in the scope of work
  17. Ensures follow-up activities.

Experience:

  • 10-15 years of work experience as a Mechanical Technician with proven experience on the leading role
  • Trade school diploma on Mechanical Fitting or Machining. Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred
  • Familiarity with the different Mechanical equipment on both rotating and stationary types, related work processes and policies of an oil and gas facility.
  • Maintenance experience in the Diesel Engine servicing of different makes are preferred

Skills:

  • Work planning ability and time-management skills;
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Coaching/mentoring skills
  • Can interpret engineering drawings, P&ID, isometric piping drawing, etc.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and keyboard skills in a Microsoft Office and other applications.
