Mechanical Technician

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Dirio Central Province Power Station (DCPPS) and the maintenance of all mechanical equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, best practices, and any active operating directives.

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing the mechanical systems that generate electricity, including turbines, generators, pumps, and auxiliary equipment. The Mechanical Technician performs routine maintenance, diagnose issues, make repairs, and ensure the safety of the power plant's mechanical systems.

Key Accountabilities:

• Perform scheduled maintenance checks and tests on mechanical equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical failures, including rotating and reciprocating equipment.
• Implement preventative maintenance plans to minimise downtime and ensure equipment longevity.
• Repair or replace defective equipment identified through inspections or reported failures.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, parts used, and equipment conditions.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures, including lockout/tagout procedures and the use of personal protective equipment.
• Work closely with other technicians, operators, and engineers to ensure smooth plant operations.
• Identify and resolve mechanical problems, including diagnosing issues with steam, hydraulic, and lubrication systems.
• Perform installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and testing of cooling, heating, mechanical, electric driven pumps, fans, and compressors.
• Responsible for setting up rigging required to set pumps/fans.
• Utilizes precision instruments to ensure proper installation belts, chains, coupling, bearings, and other drive components.
• Replaces and adjusts packing and seals.
• Cleans, sharpens, and adjusts tools as required.
• Works with equipment which includes diesel engines, emergency generator, reverse osmosis and EDI water treatment systems, air compressors, motors, pumps, etc.
• Report any defects, worn components, issues, and concerns to the O&M Coordinator and Managers
• Maintain a safe working environment and good housekeeping practices of plant and work areas.
• Read blueprints, work from specification, and follow instructions both written and oral.
• Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as requested, as well as all reasonable requests from the O&M Coordinator and Managers.

Qualifications and Experience:

• 3+ year’s relevant Maintenance experience in similar roles in the Power Generation industry.
• Experience with power plants with Solar Turbines generator turbines and control systems.
• A Mechanical qualification is desirable, a Technical College Qualification
• Good familiarity with diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Familiar with the collection of process data, completion of log sheets, and the filling out of periodic reports.
• Ability to work as a member of a team with the confidence to work alone when required.
• Being a Safety Leader promotes environment, work health, and safety protocols.
• Willingness to be part of a multi-discipline work team, to participate in cross-functional training
• A good standard of written and verbal communication skills.
• To be familiar with Power Plant CMMS, MS Office applications, and general computer use.
