Mine Maintenance Reliability Engineer

Simberi Gold Company Limited forms part of the St Barbara Group. Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking a Mine Maintenance Reliability Engineer to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Planning & Reliability Superintendent, the purpose of this role is to manage the reliability function across the Simberi operations to safely achieve high equipment availability and asset utilisation that is essential for optimum process operations, in a manner consistent with the Company’s Vision and Values.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety and of all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported and addressed.
  • Follow Simberi Project Charter – Development of Business case, Opportunity statement framing, Project scope, Timeline and Team organisational chart.
  • Project responsibilities include scoping work, risk assessments, project planning, stakeholder engagement, meetings, and progress reports.
  • Complying with sites Change management policy for removed changed components and processes.
  • Commissioning documentation of new and existing equipment after major rebuild works.
  • Ensuring the development of short- and long-term maintenance plans that provide the maintenance execution teams with the parts, tools and instructions required to effectively and safely execute the maintenance tasks.
  • Developing standards, practices, policies, and procedures to underpin life cycle of mobile plant assets.
  • Reviewing equipment failure modes, oversee installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of mobile plant assets.
  • Leading failure investigation (RCA) projects utilising root cause analysis methodologies and utilise engineering expertise to develop practical maintenance strategies.
  • Leading, develop, coach, and collaboratively work with all maintenances and operations personnel to continuously improve availability of mobile plant assets.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate reporting of the maintenance and reliability function performance to the Maintenance Superintendent and other internal and external parties.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Efficient in all site project management software suites
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, ideally within the reliability engineering field
  • At least 5 years of relevant post graduate experience
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team and work to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Relevant industry work experience in offshore mining operations, remotes sites, or similar

Desirable

  • Highly desirable to hold IEPNG certification, certification must be completed within the 6-month probation period to pass the probation. SGCL will assist with gaining certification.
  • Relevant Project management certificates and training
