Company Overview
Tolu Minerals Limited has successfully completed its exploration phase and is transitioning into underground mining operations in Papua New Guinea, with full-scale production targeted for 2027. This role is part of the build-up of operational capability across the Mobile Maintenance Department as the company moves from development into full operational status.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior planner and Mobile Maintenance Superintendent the Mobile Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, scheduling, and coordinating planned maintenance activities for Tolu Minerals' mobile equipment fleet. The role ensures maintenance work is properly planned, resourced, and sequenced to maximize equipment availability while minimizing disruption to operations, and maintains accurate maintenance records to support the transition to full-scale production in 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain weekly, monthly, and rolling maintenance schedules for the mobile fleet (light vehicles, surface, fixed plant and underground heavy equipment) in coordination with the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent.
- Plan and sequence preventive maintenance (PM) tasks based on OEM service intervals, equipment hour meters, and condition monitoring data.
- Coordinate with maintenance supervisors and Operations to schedule equipment downtime for planned maintenance with minimal impact on production and exploration activities.
- Prepare job packs, work orders, parts lists, and labour/resource estimates for scheduled and backlog maintenance jobs.
- Maintain and update the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with work order history, equipment data, and maintenance records.
- Monitor maintenance backlog and work order completion status; escalate resourcing or parts gaps to the senior planner and maintenance Superintendent.
- Liaise with the Warehouse/Procurement team to ensure spare parts and consumables are available ahead of scheduled maintenance.
- Assist in the Analysis of equipment maintenance and failure history to identify trends and recommend improvements to maintenance strategy.
- Assist in Supporting cost control by tracking maintenance labour hours, parts usage, and budget variance for the mobile fleet.
- Participate in maintenance planning meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance processes and procedures.
Qualifications
- Trade certificate in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or related mechanical/electrical discipline, or equivalent planning/scheduling qualification.
- Certificate or diploma in Maintenance Planning, Engineering, or Asset Management preferred.
- Current PNG driver's license.
Experience
- Minimum 4 years' experience in a maintenance planning, scheduling, or coordination role within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Prior trade background in mechanical or heavy equipment maintenance highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience using a CMMS (e.g. Pronto or similar, Microsoft) for work order and scheduling management.
- Experience in an underground mining environment preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong organizational and scheduling skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in CMMS and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular) for planning and reporting.
- Good understanding of preventive maintenance principles and mobile equipment maintenance requirements.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across maintenance, operations, and supply chain teams.
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret maintenance data and identify trends.
- Ability to work proactively and manage multiple competing priorities.
Working Conditions
- Underground and surface mining environment with exposure to heat, humidity, noise, dust, and confined spaces.
- Operates on a fixed roster of 19 days on / 9 days off.
- Required to work shift patterns including day and night shift as rostered.
- Must comply with all Tolu Minerals HSE policies, PNG Mining Safety regulations, and site-specific permit-to-work systems.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times in designated areas.
