We are pleased to announce an open vacancy now exists in our Engineering Department for a qualified and experienced Safety & Quality Manager.

Based in Port Moresby this position will report functionally to the General Manager MRO, and operationally to the Manager Safety & Quality Systems. The Safety and Quality Manager will recognize safety as a core value in all decision making in his area of responsibility, foster a positive safety culture within his area of responsibility and by personal example, demonstrate a commitment to the company safety policy, and Support the management team in their application of the safety management plan.

The Safety & Quality Manager will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:

  • Administer, co-ordinate and develop safety and quality activities
  • Act as the initial point of contact for safety and quality issues that arise in, or affect, the MRO
  • Conduct safety investigations and safety assessments, identifying root causes, and responding to the Safety & Quality Management Group on findings and actions
  • Respond to safety and quality related concerns arising from internal and external audit findings issued by the Safety & Quality Management Group
  • Bring to the attention of the General Manager MRO, significant trends emerging from audit findings and safety investigations
  • Participate in monthly Safety & Quality Action Group meetings
  • Assist the General Manager MRO in identifying circumstances within the organisation that necessitate a Hazard Identification and Risk Management Review or a Change Management Review being conducted
  • Participate on behalf of, or in support of, the General Manager MRO in Hazard Identification and Risk Management Reviews or Change Management Reviews called for by the PNG Air airline organization.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Hazard & Risk Register in regard to MRO activities
  • Advise the General Manager MRO on appropriate responses to weekly and monthly safety and quality performance reports
  • Assist the General Manager MRO on implementation of the Safety Management Plan in regard to MRO activities
  • Conduct audits or assessments of external service providers or subcontractors as appropriate
  • Initiate changes to documented procedures where safety investigation or audit dictate such change is necessary.
  • Liaise with the Safety & Quality Management Group on workplace hazard surveys, maintaining a hazard register for the MRO, and monitoring mitigation of HSE hazards.
  • Act as the initial point of contact in the MRO for matters relating to the corporate drug and alcohol policy.
  • Monitor the appointment of new staff in the Division and liaising with the Safety & Quality Management Group regarding SMS training requirements.
  • Keep the Regulatory Compliance & Safety Advisor appraised of periods of absence and the arrangements for transferring the function in accordance with Sec 4.16 of the Corporate Management & Policy Manual
  • Support the efforts of the Safety & Quality Management Group in promoting a safety and quality culture in the MRO
  • Provide daily direction to the MRO team of safety investigators and quality inspectors.
  • Act as a member of the Incident Site Go Team for an event involving an aircraft accident or serious incident
  • As the CASA PNG senior person responsible for the safety management and quality management systems within the MRO, exercising the right of direct access to the CEO where liaison with the Regulatory Compliance & Safety Advisor fails to resolve issues.
  • Ensure safety and quality activity in the MRO is conducted according to the policies, procedures and standards documented in the Safety & Quality Integrated Management System manual

To be considered, you must have the relevant qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications preferably a Degree in Sciences
  • 3-5 years in a similar role
  • Experience in Air Transport Operations Safety Background
  • Extensive experience in Safety
  • Proactively can develop systems/products and procedures and ability to operate effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Able to provide advice to senior management team on safety and compliance matters
  • Must have extensive Aviation safety and compliance experiences
  • Knowledge of Safety Requirements and CASA manuals
