Job Summary:
The Occupational Health & Safety Marina Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all personnel and visitors within the marina. This role involves implementing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards specific to marina operations and marine environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development of OHS policies and programs
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
- Initiate and organize OHS training of staffs
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment)
- Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims with HR.
- Prepare reports (monthly) on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance for fire equipment
- Assist with Marina Administration subject but not limited to: DHL shipment booking, marina monthly utility readings, boat inspections, VHF radio operation, organizing inward/outward clearance for visiting yachts with Boarding Officers (PNG Customs, Immigration, Department of Health & NAQIA), invoicing, queries and maintain marina compliance etc, preparing meeting minutes, upkeeping signage in the marina and/or club premises, register members bookings for the Haul Out service.
- Organize quarterly Ocean Clean up.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety, preferably within marine or marina environments.
- Knowledge of maritime safety standards, environmental regulations, and relevant legislation.
- Certification in first aid and emergency response or of safety qualifications.
- Familiarity with risk management and incident investigation techniques.
- Strong communication and training skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Marine or nautical background is advantageous.
- Knowledge of MS Office suite – Excel & Word especially
