We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Occupational Health & Safety Officer to join our Human Capital Team to ensure health and safety in the work environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Team Leader – Training & Development, the Occupational Health & Safety Officer ensures a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace. The role involves developing and implementing safety procedures, conducting risk assessments, leading safety training, investigating incidents, and supporting a strong safety culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and update OHS policies and procedures.
• Communicate safety requirements and ensure compliance across the organisation.
• Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify hazards.
• Implement corrective actions to reduce risks.
• Investigate incidents and maintain accurate records.
• Deliver safety training, inductions, and refresher sessions.
• Ensure compliance with OHS legislation and industry standards.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.
• Develop and test emergency response and evacuation plans.
• Coordinate emergency drills and response teams.
• Support health and wellness programs, ergonomic assessments, and awareness activities.
• Maintain inventory of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment.
• Analyse safety data and identify improvement strategies and opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in HR, Business, Environment, Science, or related field.
• OHS certification is an advantage.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in OHS or a related safety role.
• Strong knowledge of OHS laws, including PNG Labour Laws and the Employment Act.
• Experience in safety audits, incident reporting, and risk assessments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and training abilities.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
• High attention to detail and commitment to safety.
