New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Media and Communications Department as Officer – Media and Communications.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent – Media and Communications, the successful applicant will supports the development and delivery of internal and external communication strategies. The role ensures timely, accurate and culturally appropriate communication across the business, while assisting in media management, content creation, and stakeholder engagement to promote transparency, operational awareness and corporate reputation.

In this role, you will;

  • Produce compelling visual and written content that reinforces NPL’s reputation as a responsible operator.
  • Ensure all public-facing materials directly support the company’s right to operate by highlighting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) milestones and community success stories.
  • Ensure all communications align with corporate brand standards and messaging guidelines
  • Deliver consistent internal newsletters, print, and audio-visual content that ensures NPL’s workforce understands operational goals, safety standards, and company news.
  • Provide fit-for-purpose materials (posters, community flyers, and brochures) that allow the company to maintain a respectful, transparent presence with landowners and local authorities.
  • Ensure local stakeholders have a clear, non-technical understanding of the mine’s activities, reducing the risk of community grievances through proactive information sharing.
  • Maintain and update company website and social media platforms.
  • Monitor digital engagement metrics and provide basic analytics and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate responses or escalation of public inquiries.
  • Assist in implementing crisis communication plans during operational incidents.
  • Prepare draft communication materials for emergency situations.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of information released to stakeholders.
  • Ensure communications comply with company policies, PNG regulatory requirements, and confidentiality standards.
  • Maintain proper records of communications and approvals.
  • Maintain media contact lists, communication calendars, and document archives.
  • Support logistics for communication campaigns, events, and site visits
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health rules and procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience;

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or related discipline
  • 3–5 years’ experience in communications, media, public relations, or stakeholder engagement, preferably within the resources, mining, or industrial sector.
  • Experience in community engagement and stakeholder relations is required. Work experience with communities in PNG is an advantage.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and content development skills, with strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, content management systems, social media platforms, audio-visual editing tools, and digital analytics platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of media relations, brand management, SEO, accessibility standards, and digital communications best practices
  • Advanced skills in graphic layout, design, and visual content production.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, ability to work effectively in PNG’s diverse environment, and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational setting with minimal supervision.

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.
