Steamships is looking for an Onboarding Specialist that will oversee visa and work permit processes, and ensure a smooth and compliant onboarding experience for new hires.

Role Description

The Onboarding Specialist will play a key part in managing all aspects of immigration and work authorisation—both new applications and renewals—and serves as a critical support function to ensure a seamless transition for employees from offer acceptance through to their first day.

• Immigration & Work Authorisation - Accountable for obtaining the appropriate visas, work permits, and residency statuses necessary for lawful employment, and responsible for verifying, tracking, and maintaining accurate records of valid work authorisation for all non-citizen employees at Steamships.
• Onboarding / Pre-boarding – Accountable for the pre-boarding and onboarding process for new hires, from offer acceptance to day of commencement, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all documentation.
• Support Function – Accountable for ensuring compliance, smooth employee transitions, and a positive new hire experience. Providing timely advise, support and progressive updates to the candidate and management.

Required Experience

• 2–3 years of relevant experience in immigration case management, visa/work permit processing, and onboarding.
• 1–2 years of experience or exposure in Talent Acquisition, or onboarding-related role.
• Experience working with PNG ICA and relevant government agencies legal vendors.
• Exposure to high-volume hiring environments or fast-growing companies.

Qualifications and Key Competencies

• Solid understanding of PNG ICA processes and compliance requirements
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service mindset.
• Proficiency in Computing and HR systems (MS Suite, and applicant tracking systems)
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
