About Our Client

Our client is a leading Papua New Guinean energy company that turns the nation's natural gas resources into reliable electricity for homes, businesses and industry. The company operates gas-fired generation assets across the country and supplies power into the national grid under long-term power purchase arrangements. It is helping to build PNG's energy security and its economic growth, and it is looking for a proven operations leader to join its Assets & Operations team.

The Opportunity

This is a senior role leading the day-to-day operation of a modern open-cycle gas turbine power station in Central Province. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for plant reliability, availability and performance, with a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility and cost efficiency. You will also support and oversee the company's other generation sites across PNG, so your influence will reach well beyond one plant.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the operational management of the power station, including its people, plant, equipment and facilities
• Act as the company's main point of contact with key stakeholders
• Contribute to the annual budget and operating plan, and produce monthly production and cost reports
• Build, develop and retain capable operations and maintenance teams through targeted on-the-job training
• Own, review and improve Standard Operating Procedures and Integrated Management System procedures
• Lead periodic plant risk assessments and track availability, reliability and performance
• Validate operator logs, daily performance reports and abnormality reports, and analyse alarms and operating trends
• Review root cause and failure analysis investigations to make sure they are accurate and that lessons are shared
• Act as Site Safety Leader, promoting a strong environmental, health and safety culture
• Direct operations personnel through emergencies such as fire, security or environmental incidents
• Ensure compliance with power purchase agreements, environmental permits and company policies

What You'll Bring

• 10+ years of plant management or O&M experience in power generation
• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining gas turbines
• A degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or an equivalent technical college qualification
• Proficiency with SCADA, turbine fleet management software (e.g. Insight), Power Plant CMMS and MS Office
• A strong track record of delivering high plant performance
• Sound commercial awareness, including budget preparation and cost management
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English
• Exceptional leadership and organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
• High integrity and discretion, a strategic and results-driven approach, and a commitment to building collaborative, inclusive teams
