The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

The Painter reports to the Team Leader - Carpentry, the Painter is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic and protective quality of all painted surfaces across the University campus. This role ensures that buildings, classrooms, offices, and facilities are presented in a professional, well-maintained condition that reflects the values of Pacific Adventist University.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Carpentry form a registered training organization.
  • Trade Certificate will be viewed very favorably.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude for working in a cross-cultural ministry environment.
  • Proven experience in painting and general maintenance, including surface preparation, finishing techniques, and basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
  • Sound understanding of Occupational Health & Safety requirements, workplace safety standards, and the proper use of protective equipment.
  • Ability to identify maintenance issues, implement practical solutions, and consistently deliver high-quality, professional results.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear reports and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and coordinate work to minimise operational disruptions.
  • Physically fit to undertake manual labour, including lifting, climbing, prolonged standing, and performing a range of maintenance tasks.
