TSI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Panel Beater/Spray Painter to maintain the structural integrity and professional appearance of our essential security and transport fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, repairing, and refinishing damaged vehicle bodywork to ensure the rapid turnaround and operational readiness of all company fleets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess vehicle damage (from minor dents to major accident damage) on all fleets, including buses and trucks
- Determine the best repair method, estimate time, and compile quotes for parts and labor, assisting in external party billing when applicable
- Remove, repair, or replace damaged body panels (metal, fibreglass, and plastic). Remove dents, scratches, and blemishes by hammering, filling, grinding, and sanding repaired surfaces.
- Use mechanical and hydraulic equipment to straighten damaged vehicle frames and chassis
- Cut and join replacement sections using advanced welding techniques (e.g., gas metal arc, spot welding).
- Refit body hardware such as door locks and trims.
- Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting by sanding, sealing, and masking parts not requiring paint.
- Mix and match paint colours and apply primer and final coats using spray equipment.
- Ensure the finished repair work perfectly matches the original bodywork and paint quality.
- Maintain detailed records of all repair work, parts used, and time spent on Job Cards
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment, adhering to all health and safety procedures
Requirements
- Relevant trade qualification or vocational/technical training certification in Auto Body Repair, Panel Beating, or a related field is required.
- Proven experience as a Panel Beater, Auto Body Technician, or similar role, with expertise in both panel work and spray painting.
- Experience in small and large repairs, and familiarity with a wide variety of commercial vehicle makes and models.
- Knowledge of automotive construction, repair techniques, and paint technology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high standard of quality in finishing work.
- Ability to use and maintain specialized tools and machinery, including welding equipment, pneumatic saws, and hydraulic lifters.
- Physical fitness and the ability to operate heavy machinery and lift objects as required.
- Ability to work independently to meet tight deadlines, which is critical for maintaining fleet readiness.
- Valid driver's license
