Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Fuel and lubricants in PNG. With the head office based in Kokopo Islands Petroleum operates bulk fuel depots in the NGI, Momase, Highlands, and Southern regions.

Payroll Supervisor / Accountant

We are currently seeking a experienced and qualified Payroll Supervisor / Accountant to work within our Human Resources Department. Reporting to the Manager – HR Services, this role will oversee the company end to end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across the whole business through ensuring maintenance and compliance with payroll regulations, accurate employee records management, and administration of payroll and benefit related policies.

In addition to the focus on tactical delivery, this role will also be key to developing, leading, and driving the payroll productivity / continuous initiatives for Islands Petroleum Limited.

Key Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain payroll records, reconcile accounts, and collaborate with HR and Finance teams to streamline processes and resolve any discrepancies.
• Assist in the preparation and submission of group tax reports and payments for Islands Petroleum
• Conduct routine and regular internal audits and, develop and executive mitigation plans to correct and ensure continual compliance.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll related inquiries.
• Oversee the maintenance of employee payroll records, contracts, and personal detail in HR systems.
• Prepare and submit payroll related accounting reports to management.
• Develop and execute continuous improvements initiatives that deliver excellence if payroll processing and administration.
• Providing coaching and mentoring to junior payroll staff and structure team members development to build internal professional capability.
• Conducts routine payroll internal audit and compliance checks.

Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, the successful candidate must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, statistics, actuarial science, or economics.
• Must have at least 5 experiences in a similar role or a related field, managing payroll within organization of more than 1,000 personnel.
• Extensive experience using Pronto accounting software and a high level of proficiency in MS Excel.
• Must be knowledgeable in Account Balance Reconciliation
• Has exposure in Auditing with Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills and proven ability to work autonomously.
• Strong Customer Service Orientation with a high level of responsive and support in assisting employees with payroll related concerns.
• Proven ability to collaborate with HR, finance, and other deportments in a dynamic work environment.
• A high level of personal integrity and confidentiality
