About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation is located on Aniolam Island in Papua New Guinea’s New Ireland Province. Lihir is one of the world’s largest producing gold operations and is situated within a geothermally active, extinct volcanic crater near the town of Londolovit. As a major open-pit gold operation, Lihir plays an important role in Newmont’s global portfolio and contributes significant economic and social value to Papua New Guinea and local communities.

Your role

As the Planner Shutdown, you will coordinate shutdown planning activities to support efficient scheduling, resource allocation and safe execution across the Lihir operation.

This role will see you prepare detailed shutdown plans, develop work packages, coordinate resources and work closely with maintenance and operations teams to align shutdown activity. You will play an important role in supporting safe, well-planned shutdown execution through practical planning, effective communication, risk management and continuous monitoring of shutdown progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed shutdown plans and schedules to support safe and efficient execution.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to align shutdown activities with operational requirements.
  • Prepare and provide shutdown work packages, documentation and supporting information.
  • Monitor shutdown progress and adjust schedules as required to support delivery.
  • Assess and obtain the necessary materials, resources and information required for shutdown activities.
  • Administer risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to support safe execution.
  • Monitor and report on shutdown performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Support compliance with safety and environmental regulations throughout shutdown activities.
  • Administer pre-shutdown meetings, including shutdown charter reviews and approvals, to align all team members.
  • Assess relevant risks, implement mitigation measures and continuously monitor risk throughout shutdown planning and execution.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Trade qualification or relevant experience in maintenance, shutdowns, operations or asset management.
  • Significant applied experience as a maintenance tradesperson or in a maintenance-related role.
  • Experience in shutdown planning, coordination and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations and safety requirements relevant to shutdown activities.
  • Knowledge of multiple trades and shutdown interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, resource levelling and cost control techniques.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments to support safe shutdown execution.
  • Experience scoping tasks to enable safe and effective work delivery.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to coordinate work packages, schedules and resources.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across maintenance, operations and support teams.

Desirable experience includes frontline leadership or supervision experience, advanced proficiency in shutdown planning and coordination, extensive knowledge of risk management and safety compliance, and experience working in mining, processing, heavy industry or site-based maintenance environments.

Work Environment & Benefits

This is a full-time FIFO role based at Lihir Gold Limited in Papua New Guinea, working on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off roster. You will support Operations and Asset Management. You will work closely with maintenance, operations and shutdown teams to ensure planning activities are aligned, resourced and ready for safe execution.

You will be part of a team focused on effective shutdown preparation, practical work packaging, safe execution planning and continuous improvement across shutdown performance.
