JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Superintendent – Underground Mining, the Supervisor – Underground will lead a team of miners and technical staff, ensuring that all operations are conducted in accordance with the highest standards of safety and regulatory. This role is critical in ensuring the safety, productivity, and efficiency of our underground mining activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership to underground mining teams, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all mining activities are conducted safely and in compliance with New Porgera Limited’s safety policies and relevant legislation.
  • Monitor and manage daily underground mining operations to ensure productivity and efficiency targets are met
  • Address and resolve operational issues promptly and effectively, minimizing downtime and maximizing resource utilization
  • Maintain accurate records and produce regular reports on operational performance, safety incidents, and other key metrics.
  • Work in a manner that will not endanger self or any other person
  • Identifying the risks in their work area and using the correct controls
  • Through the use of procedures to get the job done, ensure that improvements to the procedures are captured and changes are made to controlled document
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless coordination and support for underground mining activities.
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures

The ideal candidate must have:

  • A Grade twelve (12) or above level of education
  • PNG Class 3 Driving license and be able to drive manual Light Vehicle
  • Valid mining certifications and first aid training
  • UG Truck Ticket, Services Crew + 1 other production skill
  • Minimum of 3 or more years’ experiences in Underground Mining Equipment’s with sound knowledge in both Productions ( Truck Skills) and Services ( Service Crew Skills)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in mining software and familiarity with underground mining equipment.
  • A good performance record and strong safety focus
  • An excellent time management skills and must be production oriented
  • The ability and willingness to do what is expected to ensure the daily plan is followed and projects are completed on time
  • High attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
  • Must be able to cooperate and work with all crews to ensure all procedures and safety systems are followed and adhered too
  • A good Computer Literacy skills and be able to complete daily record keeping to a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate well, with good written and spoken English
  • Stable work history and ability to work under minimum supervision

Mobilization Requirement

  • This position is open ONLY to Ipili (Cat 1 and Cat 2) and/or candidates with their own accommodation and can live in the Valley
  • Currently available in the Porgera Valley and can start Immediately
  • The roster is 14 days on and 7 days off.
  • A stable work history
  • Must Have an up to date Police clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
