Overview
We are seeking a competent, proactive, and team-oriented Power Generation Mechanical Technician to join our Heavy Machinery & Power Systems Service Team in Port Moresby.
This role is ideal for a qualified tradesperson with strong mechanical skills, basic electrical knowledge, and hands-on experience servicing generator units and associated engines in workshop and field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Report daily to the Service Supervisor or Manager and consult with the Service Advisor on scheduled and planned maintenance works
- Carry out servicing, repair, and maintenance of generator units and associated engine components (in-shop and field service)
- Complete and manage all technician paper flow processes, including job start, updates, and job completion
- Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) prior to all service or project work
- Accurately report defects, additional works, and customer service requests for approval
- Maintain daily clock-in/clock-out and productivity records in the system
- Prepare field service reports for invoicing and financial tracking
- Maintain good customer relations and professional conduct at all times
- Comply with company policies, safety standards, and housekeeping requirements
- Assist with training and mentoring apprentices and support a strong safety culture
- Be available for field service callouts, after-hours work, and standby duties when required
Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Grade 10 or Grade 12 Certificates
- Recognised Technical Trade Certificate in Mechanical Trade (Diesel Heavy or Light Motor) from a PNG tertiary institution
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role or mechanical background
- Hands-on experience with generator engines (Cummins, CAT, Perkins, or similar)
- Basic electrical knowledge related to generator systems
- Computer literate with good report-writing skills
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Current PNG Driver’s Licence
- Strong work ethic, sober habits, reliability, and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work extended hours and in field service environments
