Project Coordinator – BRIDGE-SA Project

CARE International in PNG is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Coordinator to support the effective coordination and implementation of the BRIDGE-Social Accountability Project. CARE is an international development and humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. As a non-religious and non-political organisation, CARE works with communities to help overcome poverty by supporting development efforts and providing emergency assistance. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and implementation of project activities in line with approved plans, budgets, quality standards and CARE’s programming principles. The role will work closely with government stakeholders, church agencies, civil society organisations, schools, health facilities and communities to support inclusive and accountable service delivery.

This role is based in Goroka but will require travel to CARE PNG’s field offices and project sites as and when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project activities in line with approved workplans, budgets, timeframes and quality standards.
  • Support planning, scheduling, implementation tracking and reporting across project locations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with government, church agencies, civil society organisations, schools, health facilities and community representatives.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, learning, data collection, documentation and reporting processes.
  • Coordinate social accountability approaches such as community scorecards, feedback mechanisms, dialogue meetings and joint action planning.
  • Promote meaningful participation of women, girls, boys, youth, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups.
  • Ensure project activities are implemented in line with CARE’s safeguarding, inclusion, accountability and principles that do no harm.
  • Support administration, logistics, compliance, budgeting and timely acquittal of project activities.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, development studies, governance, social sciences, project management or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in coordinating or implementing development programs, preferably in health, education, governance or social accountability.
  • Experience working with government, church agencies, civil society organisations and communities in Papua New Guinea.
  • Strong skills in project planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Good understanding of gender equality, disability and social inclusion, safeguarding and inclusive programming.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, relationship management and report writing skills.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work with limited supervision.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in Morobe and/or Eastern Highlands Province.
  • Familiarity with social accountability approaches, including scorecards, feedback systems, dialogue forums or governance strengthening.
  • Experience in health and/or education sector programming.
  • Understanding of donor-funded project requirements and reporting processes.
  • Experience working in partnership with church agencies or local civil society organisations.
