Project Coordinator – THRIVE Project
CARE International in PNG is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Coordinator to support the effective coordination and implementation of the Transforming Health Resilience, and Inclusion through Village Empowerment Program. CARE is implementing the THRIVE Project in Upper Bena Rural LLG, Eastern Highlands Province, to improve community health, well-being and resilience. The project focuses on safe water, hygiene and sanitation, maternal well-being and women’s economic resilience, responding to community – identified priorities such as unsafe water access, water-related illness, limited health access and livelihood security.
The Project Coordinator will provide day-to-day coordination, implementation oversight and field level leadership for the Upper Bena Health, WASH and Women’s Economic Resilience Project. The role will ensure that project activities are delivered on time, within scope and in line with CARE’s program quality, safeguarding, GEDSI and accountability standards.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with communities, local government, the Provincial Health Authority, community-based structures and CARE teams to support effective delivery of integrated health promotion, soft-WASH behaviour change, maternal well-being, VSLA and women’s livelihood activities.
This role is based in Goroka and will require travel to field sites in Upper Bena LLG, Unggai Bena District in Eastern Highlands Province.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Relevant tertiary qualification in public health, community development, gender and development, social sciences, project management, rural development or related field.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience coordinating community-based development, health, WASH, livelihoods, gender or women’s economic empowerment projects
- Demonstrated experience in filed coordination, work planning, activity implementation, community moblisation and partner engagement
- Experience with government partners, community leaders, churches, women’s groups, youth and civil society organisations
- Strong understanding of gender equality, disability and social inclusion, safeguarding, protection and accountability principles
- Experience supporting VSLA, financial literacy, livelihoods, health promotion or behaviour change activities will be highly regarded.
- Good written English skills, including report writing and documentation
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, working in a team and the ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines;
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Strong coordination and implementation skills
- Ability to supervise and support field staff and community-based volunteers
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and field updates.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work with limited supervision in remote field settings
- Good understand of rural development challenges in PNG, particularly in health access, WASH, livelihoods and gender equality
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Respect for diversity and community leadership
- Commitment to CARE’s values, safeguarding standards, gender equality, inclusion and accountability to communities
