The role
The Project Engineer role is pivotal to this mission. You will drive the company's continued success by assisting in the planning, development, and engineering design of solar, mini-grid, and electrical distribution projects. This includes reviewing engineering designs, conducting detailed site assessments, preparing technical specifications, and ensuring full compliance with local and international electrical regulations. This role requires extensive collaboration with cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and external contractors—to align technical execution with overall project objectives.

Main duties include:
  • Support Engineering Design: Assist the engineering team in design and contractor management for rooftop solar and mini-grid installations, utilizing specialized industry design software.
  • Conduct Site Assessments: Lead scoping, data collection, and energy sizing analysis for potential mini-grid and solar sites across Papua New Guinea.
  • Draft Technical Documentation: Formulate project parameters, specifications, and scopes of work, while assisting in the preparation of pre-feasibility studies, cost estimates, and RFQ/tender documents.
  • Ensure Quality & Compliance: Perform quality assurance and control tasks on contractor budgets, schedules, and performance to ensure compliance with relevant electrical regulations, applicable codes, and company policies.
  • Monitor Project Metrics: Create frameworks to monitor and measure project data, and establish performance test methods to verify the quality of completed installations.
  • Collaborate & Engage: Work closely with internal stakeholders, local communities, regulatory bodies, and contractors to facilitate smooth project delivery and execution.
Qualification and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Current registration with the Institution of Engineers Papua New Guinea (IEPNG) and possesses a valid driver's license.
  • 5+ years of proven experience within the power and renewables (or closely related) industry.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical or renewable design software such as Helioscope, AutoCAD, or PowerWorld, alongside a strong knowledge of local and international electrical regulations.
  • Possesses advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to write technical reports, deliver impactful presentations, and manage stakeholders effectively.
  • An organized and proactive planner with excellent project management skills, capable of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams while managing tight deadlines.
