About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Project HSE champion to join our client's Engineering and Projects team based in Port Moresby. The successful candidate will provide leadership and oversight of all health, safety, and environmental activities throughout the construction phase of a major fuel storage facility project. This role requires a highly experienced HSE professional with strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills,
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Construction Management Team to promote continuous improvement in HSE performance across the project.
- Ensure project personnel and contractors comply with the Project HSE Execution Plan and environmental commitments.
- Monitor work activities, particularly those conducted under Permit to Work requirements.
- Lead and facilitate hazard identification exercises and risk mitigation initiatives.
- Conduct and coordinate HSE meetings with contractors and stakeholders.
- Promote a strong reporting culture for hazards, incidents, and near misses.
- Ensure appropriate HSE inductions and training are provided to all personnel.
- Coordinate incident investigations, audits, and corrective actions with contractors and project management.
- Maintain accurate HSE records and prepare daily and monthly HSE reports.
- Provide ongoing coaching and leadership to personnel in safety and loss prevention practices.
- Build positive relationships with external stakeholders and support regulatory compliance.
- Monitor contractor vehicle compliance and ensure maintenance requirements are met.
- Promote a strong team approach to maintaining and enhancing HSE performance on site.
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of National Safety, Health and Environmental regulations
- Minimum 10 years’ experience operating HSE management systems and processes.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within oil and gas, energy, or major construction projects.
- Strong understanding of Permit to Work systems and contractor management.
- Excellent communication, presentation, planning, and organisational skills.
- High level of computer literacy and reporting capability.
- Ability to develop, implement and conduct HSE training and presentations
- A cover letter addressing key criteria of the role
- An updated CV in Microsoft Word format, outlining employment history, educational qualifications, and listing three referees (referees will only be contacted if shortlisted)
