Project Manager-Peacebuilding Project –Enga Based

CARE International in PNG is looking into recruiting a suitable candidate for a Project Manager role under its Peacebuilding Project based in Wabag, Enga. CARE is an international development and humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. As a non-religious and non-political organisation, CARE works with communities to help overcome poverty by supporting development efforts and providing emergency assistance. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

CARE International in Papua New Guinea has a focus on Gender Equality, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Agriculture and Health.

The Project Manager (PM) has overall responsibility for the implementation of the Project. The PM will oversee new peacebuilding programming in the Enga Province across seven communities, aimed at building social cohesion and reducing causes and impact of conflict. The PM will have overall responsibility for planning and reporting, budget management, donor liaison, community and stakeholder relationships as well as ensuring that project outputs are achieved in the agreed timeframe.

This position has two direct report and is expected to pursue a clear and compelling vision and motivate high performance. This position is based in Goroka but will require frequent trips to Enga Province.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s in international development, International Relations or Peacebuilding required. Significant experience may substitute for some education and/or minimum of 5-7 years of relevant field-based experience in co-ordinating or managing light to moderately complex projects required with an international NGO;
  • Project management experience in peacebuilding is highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with partner organisations at a high level;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical proposals;
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment;
  • Relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with culturally diverse groups;
  • Demonstrated Monitoring Evaluation and Learning skills and experience with MEL frameworks preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the organisation with high level external audiences
  • Must be proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented;
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of gender equality and a commitment to CARE’s approach and values including ethnic diversity and cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan and manage workflows and balance competing priorities to ensure timely processing to meet deadlines in a complex environment;
  • Strong leadership, decision making, problem solving, planning, analytical and influencing skills;
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information management systems; and
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in both Pidgin and English, with ability to write reports for
