World Vision International Papua New Guinea (WVIPNG) has exciting opportunity for those of you who want a change and want to become part of a dynamic team. We are currently looking for suitable, qualified, experienced, and highly motivated professional to fill the role of Protection Officer - X3 to be based in Central, Morobe & Western Highlands Province.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Safer Smarter Schools Project supports Papua New Guinea’s national education reform, including the 1–6–6 school restructuring, which focuses at improving student retention, completion, and learning outcomes from Preparatory through to Grade 12. WVPNG together with government and development partners is implementing a multi-sectoral education programme designed to improve and strengthen students safety, wellbeing, resilience and inclusion .

The purpose of this role is to promote peaceful, inclusive, and safe school environments under the Smarter and Safer Schools Project. The role focuses on strengthening conflict prevention, social cohesion, and positive relationships among students, teachers, families, and communities, particularly in provinces affected by violence, inter‑communal tensions, or child protection risks.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Peacebuilding and School Safety

  • Support implementation of peacebuilding and conflict‑prevention activities in schools to reduce youth violence, bullying, and intimidation.
  • Promote non‑violent communication, respect, and positive relationships among students and school staff.

GBV and Child Protection Prevention

  • Integrate GBV prevention and child protection messaging into school safety activities.
  • Support schools to establish or strengthen safe reporting and referral mechanisms in line with

Safeguarding procedures.

  • Promote survivor‑centered and confidential approaches to protection concerns
  • Youth, School, and Community Engagement
  • Engage students, teachers, parents, and communities to promote peaceful behavior and shared responsibility for school safety.
  • Support youth participation through peer mediation, leadership, and positive behavior initiatives.

Capacity Building and Awareness

Facilitate awareness sessions and basic training for school staff, youth, and community members on:

  • Peacebuilding and conflict resolution
  • GBV and youth violence prevention
  • Child safeguarding and referral pathways

Coordination and Reporting

  • Work closely with Provincial Coordinators, education authorities, and protection service providers.
  • Contribute to activity reporting, documentation of outcomes, and learning.

Maintaining good relationship with external stakeholders

  • Establish and maintain relationships with government and non-government education partners at school.
  • Strong coordination and collaboration with school authorities
  • Coordinate with fellow team members of the project for smooth implementation of the project.
  • Visit project sites and communities on a regular basis.

WV Christian Work Living

  • Lead and support Christian activities that enrich and develop mutual growth in Christ
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Provincial Coordinator.
  • Convey World Vision identity and core values in life, word, and deed in the workplace and outside of the workplace.
  • Participate in World Vision PNG core staff activities, such as regular staff Christian reflection activities and regular programmatic Learning & Reflection days.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or degree in Community Development, Education, Social Work, Peace Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in community‑based, youth, protection, or education programming.
  • Experience in violence prevention, GBV, child protection, or peacebuilding preferred.
  • Strong ability to engage schools, youth, and communities.
  • Tok Pisin and English proficiency required.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision on extended period
  • Good knowledge and skills on community mobilization and community extension services.
  • Computer skills
