Provincial Trainer – Education and Social Emotional Learning Project
ChildFund PNG is seeking a committed and skilled Provincial trainer to deliver School Leadership and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) training to secondary school leaders, teachers, and students in project target areas. The role plays a key part in strengthening school leadership, promoting safe and inclusive school environments, and building the leadership capacity of young people.
This position require regular travel to remote and rural communities and close collaboration with provincial education offices, school leaders, students, and ChildFund project staff.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Provincial Trainer is responsible for delivering training and monitoring progress against project targets for Head Teachers, Principals, School Boards of Management (BoM), using the School Leadership Management Training Package. This role is responsible for working closely with secondary school students and building leadership, GEDSI skills to ensure proper peer to peer support mechanism in targeted schools using Rights, Responsibility and Resilience for Respectful Relationship training. The role requires regular travel to remote locations to conduct trainings within schools. Provincial Trainers will also follow up with schools to support the development and implementation of School Learning Improvement Plans (SLIPs) and Behaviour Management Plans. In addition, the Provincial Trainer will work closely with provincial partners to coordinate training logistics, including school and teacher selection, preparation of training venues, and scheduling of district-level trainings. The position requires maintaining regular, open communication with Lead Trainers and the Provincial Liaison Officer (PLO) to ensure smooth coordination of training activities, logistics, and provincial office requirements.
Key Duties
- Deliver School Leadership and 5R Learning Resource Manual (LRM) trainings to achieve project targets and outcomes, ensuring GEDSI, Child Protection, and Safe Schools principles are mainstreamed across all sessions.
- Facilitate Safe Schools and respectful relationships sessions with secondary school students, strengthening student leadership, peer-to-peer support mechanisms, and positive behaviour.
- Provide follow-up support to trained school leaders on the development and implementation of School Learning Improvement Plans (SLIPs), Behaviour Management Plans, and delivery of 5R sessions, in collaboration with provincial and district-level staff.
- Review and provide technical advice on draft plans to strengthen quality, effectiveness, and stakeholder engagement.
- Participate in regular coordination meetings with project staff to review progress, identify challenges and risks, and develop corrective or mitigation actions in consultation with Lead Trainers, PDOE, and District Officers.
- Work with school leaders and teachers to strengthen parental and community engagement in children’s learning, school planning, and the implementation of school development and behaviour management plans.
- Prepare timely training and activity reports for each project target area, highlighting effective practices, lessons learned, and challenges encountered.
- Contribute to training planning in target areas, anticipate operational risks, and support contingency planning; assist with administrative and financial requirements as required.
- Work closely with sub-national NDOE counterparts (provincial and district levels) to plan, deliver, and monitor project activities.
- Ensure full compliance with ChildFund’s policies, safeguarding standards, and procedures.
Qualification & Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Education, Social Work, Adult Education, or a related discipline recognized in PNG.
- Experience working with secondary school students and young people, including facilitating Safe Schools or respectful relationships activities.
- Experience working in INGO in implementing, managing, coordination educational programs
- Sound understanding of the PNG education system, school leadership, and school management processes.
- Demonstrated experience in training, mentoring, and coaching teachers, school leaders, or young people to achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience delivering training in diverse and remote settings in PNG.
- Sound knowledge of quantitative and qualitative monitoring and reporting
Desirable:
- Experience trainer, school Inspector in PNG.
- Knowledge of participatory adult learning methodologies.
- Experience in child rights, Safe Schools, SLIP training.
Skills:
- Strong training skills – confidence, clarity and responsiveness
- Ability to engage trainees from a diverse setting.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Sound evaluative skills, able to assess trainees progress and make adjustments where necessary.
- Flexible and willing to travel to project target areas.
Safeguarding
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding or sexual exploitation, abuse or harassment (SEAH) risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding and PSEAH policy and procedures, and conduct yourself consistent with those policies
