PURCHASING MANAGER

The Stanley Hotel & Suites, Papua New Guinea’s premier 5-star hotel, is seeking an experienced and qualified Purchasing Manager to join our team.

This leadership position is responsible for managing the hotel’s purchasing systems and procedures, ensuring cost-effective procurement, efficient supply chain operations, and compliance with established standards and regulations.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all purchasing operations within the hotel, including supplier management, contract negotiation, importation, and customs clearance. The position ensures the efficient and timely procurement of high-quality goods and services, while maintaining full compliance with HACCP requirements and the hotel’s established standards and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage purchasing systems and procedures in line with hotel and Marriott International standards.
  • Establish and maintain effective supplier relationships, ensuring value, reliability, and quality.
  • Source competitive quotations and negotiate service and supply contracts.
  • Oversee importation, customs clearance, and ensure compliance with Papua New Guinea laws and regulations.
  • Monitor departmental budgets and ensure compliance with financial guidelines.
  • Ensure all goods meet hotel and HACCP quality standards.
  • Conduct market surveys to ensure competitive pricing and product availability.
  • Oversee inventory management, including accurate records, timely procurement, and minimizing waste.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety and environmental sustainability standards.
  • Drive efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement in purchasing processes.
  • Lead, train, and develop the purchasing team to deliver exceptional service and operational support.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in purchasing or procurement management, preferably in a hotel or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of import/export procedures and PNG customs regulations.
  • Proven negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Sound knowledge of HACCP and Occupational Health & Safety standards.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team effectively.
  • Proficiency in purchasing and inventory software systems.
