The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Assistant Librarian (Reader Services Supervisor) to join our Matheson Library team.

Reader Services Supervisor
The successful candidate will assist in the operations of the Reader Service section, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of frontline services to library users. This role involves supervising reader services staff, managing circulation services, maintaining collections, and assisting users in locating information resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assist library staff in circulation services and daily operations.
- Organize workload and prepare task schedules for circulation services.
- Coordinate shift work schedules.
- Monitor and recommend improvements to circulation system procedures, policies, and guidelines.
- Assist in staff selection, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Organize clearance exercises and oversee book displays and exhibitions.
- Conduct library inductions, tours, educational visits and special events in collaboration with other interest groups.
- Assist users in locating and accessing information resources.
- Provide guidance on the usage of Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) and OPAC.
- Ensures proper shelf maintenance and implementation of security measures for library resources.
- Perform weekend and evening shift duties.
- Collaborate with other library sections for cohesive and quality service delivery.
- Develop and implement user service programs to enhance engagement.
- Assist in training staff, trainees, and volunteers in reader service procedures.
- Compile statistical reports on resource usage and maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Reader Service Librarian.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science is recommended.
- Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in an academic library with a strong background in customer service and reader support.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in integrated library systems, preferably Koha ILS.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership abilities.
- Knowledge of library service outreach and publicity.
- Adaptability to evolving library technologies and reader services practices.
- Experience conducting library workshops and training sessions.
Conditions of Service
Assistant Librarian I/II PGK35,751 - PGK49,843 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
