Summary

The Rigger is responsible for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy materials and equipment using rigging techniques in building and tower site construction. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, precision in load handling, and collaboration with crane operators and construction teams to ensure efficient and safe lifting operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and inspect rigging equipment, including slings, shackles, pulleys, and winches.
  • Safely attach and detach loads to cranes, hoists, or lifting equipment.
  • Direct crane operators using hand signals or radio communication to maneuver loads safely.
  • Ensure loads are properly balanced and secure before lifting.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures for rigging and lifting operations.
  • Conduct pre-lift inspections and ensure rigging equipment is in good condition.
  • Adhere to weight limits and load calculations to prevent accidents.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and enforce safety compliance among the team.
  • Inspect and maintain rigging gear, cables, and hoisting equipment to prevent failures.
  • Identify and report damaged or defective rigging equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Assist in setting up temporary structures or scaffolding as needed.
  • Work closely with crane operators, site engineers, and construction crews to execute lifts safely and efficiently.
  • Provide clear instructions to team members to ensure proper rigging techniques.
  • Report site hazards, incidents, or any irregularities to the Site Supervisor.
  • Assist in assembling and installing tower components, including steel structures and antennas.
  • Ensure secure fastening of tower sections and alignment of structural elements.
  • Perform climbing duties when required, following safety harness and fall protection procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Certified Rigger qualification (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Certification in working at heights and fall protection (mandatory for tower site rigging).
  • Crane signal certification is an advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in rigging, preferably in building or tower construction.
  • Familiarity with different rigging techniques and equipment.
  • Experience in tower site rigging and climbing is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of load calculations, weight distribution, and rigging methods.
  • Ability to interpret lifting plans and follow technical instructions.
  • Proficiency in using rigging hardware, including ropes, chains, slings, and hoists.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Physically fit with the ability to work in high-risk environments and extreme conditions.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols, including PPE and fall protection.
  • Awareness of environmental hazards and emergency procedures.
  • Regular participation in safety briefings and toolbox talks.
