Safety & Security Field Support Officer

We are seeking a capable Safety & Security Field Support Officer to ensure ongoing compliance with PNG Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR Part 109 and 100) and associated aviation security, cargo and mail security, cybersecurity, safety, and quality management requirements.

The role will provide on‑site governance and oversight for aviation security, safety, and OHS compliance, supports the management and closure audit findings, and reinforces a strong safety culture through effective risk management, hazard identification, incident reporting, and compliance with applicable PNG OHS legislation, DHL Group OHS standards, and recognised industry best practice.

Responsibilities will include:

• Coordinate and perform routine internal safety and security audits, including regulatory audits and internal self‑assessments.
• Monitor cargo handling practices to ensure secure storage of international cargo (including oversized consignments) and compliance with cargo screening and custody requirements.
• Maintain and control the register of authorised screeners, including valid authorization letters and scope of screening authority.
• Ensure background checks (police clearances) are completed, documented, and current for all staff performing security‑sensitive functions.
• Support implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Management System (QMS).
• Promote a strong safety and security culture through awareness sessions, briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist management in conducting workplace OHS audits country-wide in accordance with the approved audit timetable.
• Assist with investigations of incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure investigation outcomes and corrective actions are documented, tracked, and completed as required.
• Act as the point of contact for WHS Committees across all sites, providing guidance and administrative support.
• Provide WHS specialist advice, technical support, and coaching to Managers/ Supervisors, team members and WHS Committee members.
• Assist with risk assessments for complex tasks and support frontline management and committees in conducting risk assessments for non‑complex activities.

Candidates' requirements for the role include:

• Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Aviation Management, Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline.
• Knowledge of PNG Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR Part 109 and 100) and PNG OHS legislation.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in safety, security, compliance, or operational risk management.
• Demonstrated experience supporting regulatory audits and closing audit findings (CASA or equivalent authority).
• Practical experience in cargo and mail security, and safety oversight within an operational environment.
• Strong communication skills and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage self in a high energy environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
• Valid Identification Card (NID/ Birth Certificate/ Passport/ Driver’s License).
• Current class 6 driver’s license and current police clearance certificate.
