We currently have an immediate vacancy for a Safety, Health & Environment Officer to join our already strong and vibrant Safety, Health & Environment team in Port Moresby. Reporting to the SHE Manager this role will assist Site departmental Managers in leading and implementing Safety the GF Way and other OHS Standards across all sections of the site – Operations (Production & Maintenance), Logistics& Supply Chain, Admin and Sales. They will also lead the Supervisors and Team Leaders to ensure compliance to all OHS&E Standards across all sections on site. This involves working with all levels of people so that everyone goes home safe as they came in the morning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure compliance with Safety and promote Wilmar Desired Safety Behavior practices to all managers, supervisors, employees and other Occupational Health Safety & Environment Standards.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP standards, Quality and Food Safety Standards.
  • Conduct frequent safety walks/audits to identify unsafe behaviors/practices and conditions and communicate safe behaviors for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure site is well conversant with Emergency Evacuation Plans, basic Fire Fighting techniques and First-Aids.
  • Prioritize work according to potential safety risks without compromising production and sales demands, to eliminate significant injuries and incidents.
  • Timely reporting of all incidents with appropriate documentation of detailed investigations conducted and corrective / preventative actions taken.
  • Ensure total compliance to LOTO, Hot Work procedures, and other GF OHSE standards (Standard operating Procedures) to eliminate potential injuries, environmental incidents and achieve best practices.
  • Conduct Risk Analysis on machines, designs and workspaces and submit detailed reports of findings with recommended solutions to Operations Manager and SH&E Manager.
  • Conduct routine audits on OHS & E standards/procedures and report on findings to Site Managers and SH&E Manager.
  • Register and maintain detailed records of all safety hazards identified in Enablon System with their appropriate corrective action plans, and report to management as and when required.
  • Identify areas for improvement in the process to achieve safe working conditions and practices, and ensure plans are in place, on track and according to agreed objectives and timeframes.
  • Capture and recommend solutions/improvements in the OHS&E Management System (Enablon).
  • Review all Best Practices (Standard Operating Procedures) and define and recommend new or improved practices and standards to operations, requesting any procedural changes and providing necessary training required.
  • Provide support to the Site Managers and SH&E Manager in the implementation of the annual OHSE Plans. Assist site managers in effectively implementing and facilitating Care Process in the instant of injuries through to rehabilitation and leading the SEEK process for all incidents and closing off on agreed corrective actions.
  • Ensure your own behaviors are consistent with the vision, principals, goals and or priorities for GF
  • Take ownership for meeting your daily goals and targets on time.
  • Seek support and feedback from your supervisor or Manager if you are unsure of your responsibilities.
  • Make an active contribution to the team environment, through sharing knowledge and collaborating with others to build a high performing team.
  • Ensure commitment and clear understanding of GF policies and procedures and always adhere to the principles.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations on site.
  • Follow instructions given for your own health and safety and those of others by following safe work procedures.
  • Prevent any environmental incidents from occurring and actively report any safety concerns, near miss or incidents to the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator and your immediate Manager when the incident occurs.
  • Actively comply with Safety WALK’s and TALK’s according to the schedule.
  • Wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment required in designated areas (100% compliance).
  • Comply with all safety, quality and Goodman Fielder policies and practices.

To be considered for the role, you will need to have:

  • Minimum Diploma Certificate in Health, Safety and Environment
  • More than 2 years’ experience in an FMCG or process environment
  • Technical safety capability
  • Communication capability
  • Planning capability
  • Skills that enable you to deliver results and deliver fast
