Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Dog Trainer specializing in security and operations to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in canine training, particularly in areas such as obedience, scent detection, apprehension, and patrol work. This role will involve training and maintaining the proficiency of our canine teams to perform various security and operational tasks effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement training programs for security and operations dogs, focusing on obedience, agility, scent detection, patrol work, and apprehension techniques.
  • Conduct regular training sessions with canine teams to ensure they meet performance standards and maintain proficiency.
  • Evaluate the progress of each dog in training and provide individualized coaching and reinforcement as needed.
  • Work closely with handlers to enhance their understanding of canine behavior, training methodologies, and best practices for handling security and operations dogs.
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of new dogs for security and operations purposes, assessing temperament, drive, and suitability for training.
  • Keep accurate records of training activities, progress reports, and certifications for each dog in the program.
  • Stay current on industry trends, new training techniques, and advancements in canine equipment to continually improve training programs and methodologies.
  • Assist with the general care of dogs, including feeding, grooming, exercise, and monitoring health and well-being.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks in the kennel facility, such as cleaning kennels, sanitizing equipment, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for dogs.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in professional dog training, with a focus on security and operations.
  • Certified Dog Trainer or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of canine behavior, learning theory, and operant conditioning principles.
  • Experience working with various breeds of dogs, particularly those commonly used in security and operations roles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with handlers and other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute training programs tailored to specific goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve in high-pressure situations.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of both dogs and handlers.

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Physical ability to handle and work with large, energetic dogs in various weather conditions.
