Summary

The Senior Civil Engineer – Infrastructure specializes in developing designs for infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on drainage systems, road construction, and earthworks. This role requires a high level of expertise in civil engineering principles, design compliance, project management, and proficiency in BIM (Building Information Modeling) technologies, including Navisworks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, planning, and implementation of civil infrastructure projects including roadworks, drainage, earthworks, and site development, ensuring compliance with PNG building codes and statutory regulations.
  • Coordinate and supervise the civil engineering team and subcontractors on-site to meet project timelines and quality standards.
  • Conduct land and site assessments, considering local geography, environmental constraints, and community impacts.
  • Develop project specifications and review technical drawings, scopes of work, and bill of quantities for land development projects.
  • Provide guidance on locally available and cost-effective construction materials, ensuring environmental sustainability and suitability to PNG conditions.
  • Perform structural calculations and technical assessments to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency of civil works.
  • Collaborate with other professionals including surveyors, architects, project managers, and government representatives to ensure integrated and compliant delivery.
  • Liaise with clients, local landowners, and government authorities (e.g., Department of Works, Physical Planning Board) to align project objectives and secure necessary approvals.
  • Ensure strict quality control and site safety compliance in accordance with ISO standards, project specifications, and company policies.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior engineers, technicians, and site personnel, building local capacity and supporting knowledge transfer.
  • Keep up-to-date with developments in civil engineering standards, practices, and tools, especially those suited to the PNG environment.
  • Prepare clear and timely progress reports, technical documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks, and other relevant BIM tools for design review, coordination, and clash detection where applicable.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with environmental management plans and community engagement protocols.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in infrastructure and civil engineering, with a proven track record in project management and leadership.
  • Extensive knowledge of design and construction processes, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in CAD software and engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and BIM technologies.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Advanced proficiency in BIM, particularly using Navisworks and other civil engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, HEC-RAS, or similar.

Others

The Senior Civil Engineer – Infrastructure will be predominantly office-based, focusing on design, planning, and coordination tasks. However, regular site visits are essential for assessing project progress, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with design specifications. On-site presence is necessary for crucial stages of project development or as issues arise that demand expert resolution. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required during site visits to adhere to safety standards. The position may occasionally require extended hours to meet critical project milestones or deadlines.
