Woodlark Mining Limited (WML) is engaged in Mineral Exploration and Development of Woodlark Gold Project, MBP, PNG. WML has entered an exciting phase and is now well positioned to invest and unlock the potential of the Project over the next 18 months. The Company is planning to undertake a comprehensive exploration program and unlock significant potential through trenching and drilling and Project growth. With this comes new opportunities to joint WML Exploration Team on Woodlark Island, as we ramp up activities this quarter. National FIFO roles are now available in our Exploration Team.

The Role

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, you will play a key role and lead the core shed team, tasked with progressing our exploration and resource development targets from generative to resource stage. Woodlark deposit styles range from low to intermediate sulphidation with limited to data rich targets, hosted in volcanogenic terrain with complex lithologies and structural settings. The role will require the Senior to leverage off their experience to lead the core shed team by tracking and prioritising geological diamond core activities, exploration sample submissions, QAQC requirements, various office administrative support and assisting with preparation and submission of statutory reporting. Providing guidance and best practice in geological logging and sample handling and to coordinate all sample submission while adhering to the Company’s QAQC Policy. The role will be well suited to an exploration administrator who wants to join a well-funded project. Diligence and strong administration skills are needed to support the team to advance several exciting projects on Woodlark Island.

This is a FIFO position working on a 4 weeks on 2 weeks off roster. Preferred Points of hire are subject to incumbents’ skills and experience.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Previous experience in administrating exploration teams and providing proficient geological support in a core shed environment.
  • Exposure to successful exploration projects, including the discovery and delineation of mineral resources and exposure to mining processes.
  • Proficiency in diamond core logging processes.
  • Familiar with best practices for trench, diamond core and RC chip sampling.
  • Ensure company QAQC standards are achieved and maintained (aligned to JORC).
  • Proficient in prioritising, capture and migration of geological and analytical digital data to 3rd party database administrator (off-site) and exposure to Ocris (desirable).
  • Database administrator (on-site) for all drilling, trenching and surface data.
  • Extract and provide data to internal and external parties that will be used in interpretation of trenching and drilling results.
  • Experience in reviewing contract invoices (earthworks, drilling and laboratory).
  • Assisting in preparation of statutory reporting to government departments.
  • Acting for Exploration Manager and other duties as directed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology.
  • Previous exploration experience in epithermal gold systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in mineral exploration, managing core shed and sample submission, QAQC processes and electronic data handling.
  • Diligent, well organised, and well versed at managing the team’s dataflow via in-house and external systems.
  • Possess analytical skills to review geological and analytical dataset and prepare reports. Exposure to ioGAS (desirable).
  • Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of QAQC processes for sampling and analytical results, with a proactive approach to assess and action best result outcomes.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in relevant GIS (MapInfo/Discover, QGIS), digital data capture software (Ocris desirable) and 3D software (desirable).
  • Production of reports and assisting is presentations.
  • Good written and verbal communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communicator, analytical and critical thinking skills, and willingness to make a positive improvement.
  • Be self-driven and motivated, willing to mentor geologists and field technicians, contribute your ideas in a positive and proactive manner, share your skills and inspiring the team.
  • Valid manual Driver's Licence (Class 6) with recent driving experience well regarded.
