Position Goal
To undertake procedures to determine whether the Business Units and branches within NBCL
are performing their planning, accounting, custodial, internal controls, operational risk
management, and compliance risk management practices in compliance with duly approved
Management policies and procedures that are consistent with NBCL’s strategic objectives and
goals.
- To execute risk-based audits in accordance with the Bank’s Internal Audit Methodology,
Charter and Policies. Be guided by Auditing Process and Frameworks from the Institute of
Internal Auditors (IIA Global)’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal
Auditing Standards, and ISACA’s Auditing Standards and Guidelines.
- To lead audits (IT, BU, and Branch) and ensure that these are completed in line with BARC
approved Audit Plan.
- To lead special reviews, assignments, investigations, or projects at the request of the BARC
and/or Management.
- To provide close supervision and coaching to both IT and Audit Officers whilst conducting the
audits or other engagements. To review working papers and issue write-ups, which include
detailed audit findings, implications, and recommendations) prepared by the IT and Audit
Officers.
To report audit action items and to make prescriptive recommendations for correcting
unsatisfactory conditions, improving operations, strengthening internal controls, and reducing
costs.
- Participate in the development/ implementation of the Audit Software (Protecht) to ensure
adequate controls are introduced and that the development is in accordance with
management’s instructions.
- Assist the Senior Manager Internal Audit/Head of Internal Audit in preparation of reports to the
BARC, follow-up and track open audit action items, and other related tasks as direct by the
Head of IA.
Key Result Areas
- Lead the risk-based audits. Ensure that planning, fieldwork, and completion activities are
performed in line with IIA standards and documentation relating to planning, fieldwork, and
completion activities are completed and uploaded to IA’s Audit Software (Protect) timely. - Develop, in consultation with other Senior Audit Officers and Head of Audit, a suitable Audit
Work Programs for all auditable areas. The Audit Work Programs should: - Consider the auditee’s strategic objectives and the controls in place to achieve such
objectives. - Focus on controls in place to address high and significant risks as documented in the
auditee’s Risk Register. - Include testing procedures to identify any instance of non-compliance with the relevant
obligations as documented in the auditee’s Obligation’s Register; and - Be based on approved policies and procedures.
- Assess the auditee’s internal control framework (control environment, risk assessment, control
activities, information and monitoring, and monitoring) by performing audit procedures (e.g.
inquiry, inspection, observation, and re-performance) - Efficiencies within the IA BU are identified by utilizing systems to replace manual efforts or
enhancing processes to reduce service delivery times. - Conduct special projects and investigations, as required and as directed by the Head of Audit.
Liaise with other Audit Officers where audit activities interface, to obtain assistance were
necessary and to ensure a coordinated approach. - Assist to support Internal Audit software and automated processes. Be the first line contact
point for any support requirements and assist to resolve issues at the earliest and liaise with
appropriate support (internal/external) teams.
Qualifications and experience
- Preferred: University Degree or other Tertiary Diploma relating to Audit, Risks, Accounting,
Banking & Finance and/or IT. - Desirable: Professional qualifications in Audit (Certified Internal Auditor - CIA), Risks (Certified
Risk Management Assurance - CRMA), Accounting (Certified Public Accountant - CPA), or IT
(Certified Information Security Auditor - CISA) - Desirable: Membership to a professional body such as IIA, CPA, or Information Systems Audit
and Control Association (ISACA).
Skills and abilities
- Banking product and services knowledge - understanding of the underlying products or

Experience
- Essential: A minimum of 5 years Banking experience or 3 years prior Internal or External (IT).
- Audit experience in the Banking or other Financial Institutions.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2 years prior supervisory experience of a team of at least 2 staff.
