Senior Nurse

The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited by the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Senior Nurse is required to perform the following ‘Core Responsibilities’ listed below.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Managing routine nursing activities to maintain smooth clinic workflows and uphold standards of care.
  • Delivering holistic services such as assessment, triage, treatment, emergency stabilisation, and ongoing management within scope of practice.
  • Responding to after‑hours and urgent cases, coordinating referrals and transfers with hospitals and ambulance services.
  • Addressing student health needs through preventive services, education, and collaboration with university departments.
  • Providing clinical guidance to staff, students, and volunteers, fostering professional growth and learning.
  • Ensuring proper stock control, safe storage, and compliance with health regulations for medications and equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate records, safeguarding confidentiality, and preparing reports for institutional and regulatory bodies.
  • Supporting infection prevention, governance, and continuous enhancement of healthcare services.
  • Promoting teamwork, compassionate Christian service, and alignment with PAU’s mission and vision.
  • Driving continuous improvement and sustainable expansion of clinic services to meet evolving community needs

About you:

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognised Tertiary Institution in PNG is viewed favourably.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Papua New Guinea.
  • Minimum five (5) years post-registration clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and the ability to supervise and mentor others are highly desirable.
  • At least two (2) years of recent clinical experience in Emergency Nursing, Primary Health Care, Maternal & Child Health, or a comparable acute clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated competence in patient assessment, triage, emergency stabilisation, and clinical decision-making.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
