CreditBank PNG is recruiting a suitable candidate for the role of Senior Payments Officer.

The Senior Payments Officer plays a critical role in supporting the Payments and Settlements function within Operations, ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant execution of payment and treasury transactions. Working closely with the Payments Manager, the role requires strong technical expertise, sound risk awareness, and a commitment to control, process integrity, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Payments Manager in overseeing daily operations of the Payments and Settlements function.
  • Process and monitor payments and settlements transactions within agreed turnaround times and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Ensure all transactions are compliant with regulatory requirements and internal policies, escalating issues promptly.
  • Act as a payment authorizer within delegated authority limits.
  • Assist in identifying and mitigating operational risks within the payment’s environment.
  • Contribute to the resolution of audit findings and ensure timely closure of outstanding items.
  • Participate in the review and enhancement of departmental processes to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.
  • Maintain and update procedures and documentation relevant to the Payments and Settlements function.
  • Support the implementation of projects and system changes, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Maintain accurate transaction records and support the development of efficient retrieval systems.
  • Prepare and contribute to regular reports and dashboards for senior management.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance on payments, settlements, and treasury operations to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members to promote knowledge sharing and cross-skilling across the team.

Key requirements

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Banking, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in banking operations, with demonstrated exposure to commercial payments, treasury settlements, cash management, and reconciliations.
  • Proven ability to support operational change initiatives and contribute to process improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and external partners.
  • Highly organized, with a strong focus on accuracy, controls, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure in a fast‑paced, time‑critical operational environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.
