Senior Project Officer: Human-centred Design Position

CARE International in PNG is recruiting a Senior Project Officer, Human-Centred Design position based in Goroka. CARE is an international development and humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. As a non-religious and non-political organisation, CARE works with communities to help overcome poverty by supporting development efforts and providing emergency assistance. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

The Senior Project Officer role has responsibility for implementing, monitoring, and reporting the management of the Human Centred Design program in Madang, Morobe and Eastern Highlands Province. This position will oversee supervision of all activities. Working alongside and under the supervision of the Health Project Manager, the Senior Project Officer will work closely with Provincial and District Health Authorities to improve the uptake of immunization in targeted communities in the three (3) provinces. S/he will implement project activities, perform administrative requirements, as well as the strong building of networks and linkages between communities, churches, district health services, provincial health authority and other relevant key stakeholders.

This role is based in Goroka and will require travel to rural, remote areas in Madang, Morobe and EHP.

This Position will have indirect contact with Children or vulnerable adults.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Minimum University degree in Community Health, or other related fields and/or minimum 3 years relevant work experience in community health in remote/rural settings (Highlands Region desirable), preferably with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO);
  • Completion of a TOT and 2 years facilitation experience.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in facilitating training and capacity-strengthening, including understanding of adult learning principles and participatory methodologies and leading participatory analysis is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment and a commitment to CARE’s approach and values including ethnic diversity and cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated experience in following standard policies, procedures and processes and ensure the implementation of basic standard transactions including the management and acquittal of a cash advance;
  • A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning, problem solving and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, working in a team and the ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated characteristics in honesty, reliability, trustworthiness with the ability to maintain
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to group objectives and work effectively in a group setting.
  • Fluent communication skills in Pidgin and intermediate oral and written English.
  • Demonstrated experience with facilitation activities for low-literacy communities.
  • Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and numerical skills.
