The Role

Senior Purchasing Officer

Reporting to the Supply Superintendent, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and coordinating the buying and expediting functions to support the operational objectives of WML. This role ensures that all procurement activities are conducted efficiently, ethically and in full compliance with WML policies, procedures and governance standards.

This is a FIFO position on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster (the roster will be amended during the operational phase of the project). Preferred Points of Hire are Woodlark, Alotau, Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training
  • Ensure that the buying and expediting needs of WML are attained, in a manner compliant with site and corporate procurement policies
  • Ensuring value for money to WML through purchasing from approved suppliers against relevant contracts
  • Report any request for off contract purchases to the Supply Superintendent
  • Accurately maintain purchasing records, so that customers can readily identify progress against their demands
  • Monitor supplier performance and communication, advising the Supply Superintendent of any identified anomalies or concerns.
  • Support the warehousing personnel in rectifying receipting anomalies through rapid supplier liaison, preventing inventory accounting errors.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Effective time management to ensure twice weekly reordering of inventory and the expediting of outstanding orders

People accountabilities

  • Contributing to an effective team/crew.
  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

  • Behaviour consistent with WML’s values
  • Formal training and qualifications in Purchasing functions
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a buyer in any extractive industry in remote areas
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with suppliers and customers
  • Strong knowledge in stock inventory and using of Pronto software
  • Able to work as a team and unsupervised
  • Computer Literacy with Microsoft Products
