About the Role

Our Newmont Lihir Gold mine operation is now recruiting for an experienced, driven and self-motivated Senior Specialist – Shutdowns Mechanical to join the Shutdown Management team.

This role will be working a 22:20 roster where you will be working a combination of both day and night shift. This role is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Define all shutdown logistics needs for the Grinding and Flotation area while working in with the larger shutdown teams to ensure wastage/duplication of labour and equipment is minimised.
  • Rectify gaps in communication between Scopers, Planners, Schedulers, or the Kitting and Staging Team and create strategies to improve processes.
  • Identify improvement opportunities within the Grinding Shutdown Planning and Execution team and create strategies to help the department improve.
  • Contribute to the long-term Grinding and Flotation shutdown planning process.
  • Contribute to the development of Grinding & Flotation shutdown strategies and tactics through collaboration with Reliability Engineers and provide quality feedback on existing strategies.
  • Assist in facilitation of Grinding & Flotation Shutdown close-out meeting.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture to actively look for ways to improve shutdown processes and durations with documented portfolio of activities.
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities.
  • Build excellent working relationships with all departments involved in the planned shutdown process.
  • Develop team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training.
  • Drives and influence proactive safety behaviours.

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience working in similar roles within mineral processing including large-scale fixed asset management experience.
  • Experience in Chutes, Feeders, Mills, Flotation & Thickeners.
  • Previous experience in shutdown planning, scheduling and process systems.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience in developing, coaching and training team members.
  • High technical experience with Grinding & Flotation plants.
  • Relevant Fitter or Boiler Maker Trade Certificate.
  • Planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building and training.

Desirable criteria

  • Mill Specialist experience.
  • Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Project Management or Asset Management.
  • Previous Expatriate experience working in a remote location.

The Requirements

  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check.
