The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as Senior Specialist, Trainer – Processing

About the role

Reporting to the Alternate Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the national trainees and operators are trained in accordance with the processing department safety and training procedures incorporating a Competency Based Testing (CBT) systems that meets NPL standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out training and assessment for the processing department workforce in a safe and efficient manner.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver in house CBT programs for all levels of processing department personnel
  • Conduct specific area inductions for personnel into the processing department specific sections/areas
  • Conduct training sessions on safety procedures, equipment operation, and basic troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Maintain accurate records for in-house training programs within the processing department
  • Assess training needs and create customized training plans
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs periodically and review training manuals to accommodate current practices and procedures
  • Maintain accurate training records and documentation and report on all training programs being developed, delivered and assessed.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to plant personnel on the job
  • Assist department leadership with the annual KPI setting and performance reviews for plant personnel
  • List resources required to implement training programs for submission to the Alternate Manager
  • Promote sections of the PNG Mining (Safety) Act, highlighting sections 274, 281 & 45
  • Train the National personnel in safety, environmental, plant operations, troubleshooting and methodology to apply corrective actions
  • Contribute in site safety meetings and site training meetings
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant PJV policies & procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Grade 12 and ideally, formal training qualifications or a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (or equivalent)
  • At least a minimum of 5 years process plant experience and preferably 3 years as a trainer
  • Proven record of experience in adult training and development
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures, operating instructions and SOPs and translating them into training materials
  • Able to competently operate all, or most of the equipment used within the areas of the processing department
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Total commitment to the training of PNG National citizens
  • Computer literacy and competent in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Commitment to safety, environment and continuous improvement
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate data collection and analysis
  • Working knowledge of an LMS or some form of training data software
  • Knowledge of specific industry standards and regulations (e.g. ISO standards).
