The Role

The Senior Underwriter will oversee risk evaluation across General, Medical, and Life Insurance lines, manage portfolio performance to maximise profitability, engage with clients and brokers, provide technical guidance, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive process improvements to uphold strong underwriting standards.

Key requirements

• Underwrite policies, renewals, and endorsements across General, Medical (key focus), and Life Insurance.
• Analyse client information, including medical reports, financial data, occupation, lifestyle, and claims history to determine risk, pricing, coverage, and terms.
• Monitor portfolio performance, loss ratios, and trends, recommending corrective actions such as repricing or guideline adjustments.
• Build strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal teams; provide technical input on complex cases and support business development.
• Mentor and support underwriters, contribute to training, process improvements, and knowledge sharing.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting policies, authority limits, reinsurance requirements, and regulatory standards; support audits and maintain accurate documentation.

Key Requirements

• Diploma in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
• 3–5 years’ experience in underwriting or risk assessment.
• ANZIIF certification is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Proficient in MS Office and underwriting software.
