About the Role

The University is seeking a competent and motivated Service Support Technician to join the ICT Services team at Popondetta Campus, Oro Province.

This position is responsible for delivering high-quality information and communication technology services that support academic and administrative operations. The role involves providing both hardware and software support, ensuring reliable ICT infrastructure, and assisting staff and students with their technology needs in a dynamic university environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and configure computer hardware, software, systems, network devices, printers, and scanners.
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems, software, and network infrastructure.
  • Respond promptly to service issues and support requests.
  • Provide technical support to end-users (staff and students) in person, via phone, email, or video calls.
  • Assist the ICT Officer-in-Charge (OIC) in setting up new user accounts and access permissions.
  • Repair and replace ICT equipment as necessary.
  • Test and evaluate new technologies for adoption.
  • Assist in delivering end-user training and ICT awareness programs.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology, or Engineering from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in a customer-focused ICT support role.
  • Exposure to a university or higher education environment is desirable.
  • Experience supporting multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and MacOS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Microsoft Office 365 and LAN/WAN connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, and multimedia projectors.

Knowledge and Skills

Technical Knowledge:

  • Understanding of computer hardware systems architecture.
  • Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Proficiency in installing and maintaining application software across multiple platforms.
  • Familiarity with email systems and diagnostic tools.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Logical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent listening, questioning, and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and manage multiple projects.

  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing ICT needs.

Salary Range:

K30,495 – K37,276 per annum
